The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is an important financial support program launched by the Government of India for farmers. India is largely dependent on agriculture, and many families earn their livelihood from farming. However, rising farming costs, changing weather conditions, and unstable income often create financial pressure for farmers. To reduce this burden, the government provides direct income support under this scheme. The money is transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer, ensuring transparency and removing middlemen.
Structure and Purpose of the Scheme
Under this scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs. 6,000 every year. This amount is paid in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each, released every four months. The purpose of providing the amount in installments is to ensure that farmers get regular financial help throughout the year. The money can be used to buy seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs. This support helps farmers avoid taking loans for small farming expenses and encourages financial independence.
Update on the 22nd Installment
The 21st installment was successfully credited to farmers’ accounts in November 2025. Now, farmers across the country are waiting for the 22nd installment. It is expected that the next installment may be released by mid-February 2026. However, there has been no official confirmation from the government yet. Farmers are advised to stay updated through official announcements and ensure that their documents are correct and updated to avoid delays.
Eligibility Criteria for Farmers
To receive benefits under this scheme, certain conditions must be fulfilled. The applicant must be an Indian citizen and must own cultivable land registered in official land records. If there are errors in land details, the installment may be delayed. Families with members who are government employees or income taxpayers are not eligible for this scheme. The bank account must be active and linked for Direct Benefit Transfer.
Importance of e-KYC
The government has made e-KYC mandatory to prevent fake beneficiaries from receiving benefits. Farmers who have not completed e-KYC may face delays in receiving their installment. The process can be completed online through the official PM Kisan portal or by visiting the nearest Common Service Center. Aadhaar and a registered mobile number are required to complete the process.
How to Check Payment Status
Farmers can check their payment status online through the official PM Kisan website. By selecting the “Beneficiary Status” option and entering their Aadhaar number or registration number, they can view details of all installments. After OTP verification, the status of the latest payment, including transaction details, will appear on the screen.
What to Do If Payment Is Not Received
If the installment is not credited, farmers should first check their e-KYC and Aadhaar linking status. They should also confirm that their bank account is active and DBT enabled. In case of issues, they can contact their bank or the official helpline for assistance.
